Ex-minister’s wife found murdered

A deep cut inflicted by a sharp object was found on the left side of her neck.

Former Mizoram Finance Minister J Lalsangzuala’s wife Zokhumi, 83, was found murdered in her bed at her Aizawl residence Thursday morning.

Zokhumi’s granddaughter, with whom she lived in Aizawl’s Mission Veng neighbourhood, found her dead under blankets around 9.30am.

A deep cut inflicted by a sharp object was found on the left side of her neck. Blood was found on the bed and on the floor. Aizawl SP C Laldina said no murder weapon has been found and there is no trace of a forced entry.

Police estimate that about Rs 64,000 has gone missing from the deceased’s steel cupboard. Although the contents of the cupboard appeared messed up, it seemed to have been opened with the key.
