An associate professor of Rural Institute of Medical Science & Research in Etawah has been booked for allegedly raping a final-year student of Government Dental College at a hotel in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district. A case in this regard was registered at Modhapara police station on December 29.
According to police, associate professor Vikas Verma had reportedly gone to Raipur for viva test of final-year students of the dental college. One of the students (24) claimed that Verma was in touch with her on Facebook for nearly a month and he met her during his visit. He took her to the hotel he was staying in and raped her.
Medical examination of the victim confirmed the rape.
Superintendent of Police (City), Raipur, Anshuman Singh Sisodia said that they are in touch with UP police to arrest the accused. He said that the incident took place on December 26, but the victim informed the police on December 29 after her parents reached Raipur.
Sub-inspector Rajesh Mishra, who is in-charge of Modhapara police station, told The Indian Express that medical report has confirmed rape. The victim, whose viva test was conducted on December 25, alleged that Verma took her to the hotel on the pretext of having a discussion and raped her after issuing threats, Mishra said.
When contacted, public relations officer of the institute at Etawah Anil Kumar Pandey said Vikas Verma is an associate professor in the dental department and he is not aware of any case lodged against him.
