Durga Shakti Nagpal, a 2010-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer, was appointed as Officer on Special Duty to Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Thursday. Nagpal has remained in the news in the past after she took action on sand mafia and illegal mining in Ghaziabad.
As per the order issued, she will join as OSD in the rank of an under secretary “in relaxation of eligibility condition of minimum years of service” required for the post and will have a three-year tenure. The Centre has requested the Uttar Pradesh government to relieve her immediately to enable her to take up the new assignment.
Nagpal had hit headline in 2013 when she was suspended by the UP government — allegedly at the behest of some vested interests who’d been hurt by her taking on the sand mafia. She, however, was later reinstated.
