Three doctors in Kerala have been suspended on charges of taking pictures of a cesarean section procedure and circulating them on WhatsApp. Earlier in the day, the Kerala High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail applications of the doctors, who are facing a criminal case under section 354 of IPC and section 66 E and 67 A of the IT Act.
The suspended government doctors were identified as gynaecologists V V Madhusudhanan, T V Manoj Kumar and anaesthetist P P Sunil, all of whom were working at the government hospital in Kannur district’s Payyannur.
The alleged incident took place on July 18, when the woman gave birth to triplets. Several pictures of her undergoing the operation were shot on a mobile phone and later circulated. On Monday the woman approached the police after stumbling upon the pictures.
The health department has conducted an internal inquiry into the incident, which has stated that the three doctors were prima facie responsible. Kannur district medical officer Dr K J Reena said they have sought the assistance of the cyber cell to fix the mobile phone allegedly used to shoot the procedure.
The doctors have gone into hiding since, and they did not turn up before the inquiry panel, Reena said.
