Enraged over Thursday’s attack on the party office by youth congress activists led by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s son Vikramaditya Singh, state’s top leadership on Friday knocked the Raj Bhawan’s doors seeking immediate dismissal of the state’s congress government and a subsequent probe by sitting High Court judge.
Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, state BJP president Satpal Satti, MLAs, former ministers, senior party leaders, councilors of Municipal Corporation and state BJYM president Sunil Thakur—who was injured in the attack, met Governor Kalyan Singh and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting how the youth congress ‘engineered’ attack on the party office.
Nearly two dozen BJP workers and BJYM activists were injured, Rajesh Sharda later also referred to PGI Chandigarh fearing permanent lose of vision in his left eye, after a violent clash outside the BJP office. The Youth congress president Vikramditya Singh had led his supporters, two of them Vice-chairmen of government PSUs to hold demonstration outside the state BJP headquarters.
“It’s highly outrageous act on the part of Chief Minister’s son to lead 300 youth activists to hold protest/demonstration outside office of the opposition party against a central legislation. The police was alerted by the party and help was sought against an unforeseen happening. Despite this, and assurance given by SP Shimla D W Negi, youth activists resorted to violence and resorted to lawlessness openly in police presence,” Dhumal told the Governor.
Beside other hooligans who had joined the purported attack there were five CID personnel, four policemen from state’s security wing and a PSO of VVIP who were part of the crowd attacking the office and leaving two dozen workers injured. They used government vehicles to reach the BJP office and were allegedly armed with stones, sticks and sharp edged weapons.
Dhumal recalled Vikramaditya had spoken to him before leading the protest march to the BJP office and he was advised against such an act as it had never happened in Himachal Pradesh’s history that a ruling party had gone to hold demonstration outside opposition’s doors against a central government legislation (Land acquisition Ordinance).
He rejected the magistrial probe ordered by Deputy Commissioner Shimla Dinesh Malhotra and had nothing less than a judicial probe by a sitting judge of the High Court, and action against those involved was acceptable .
State BJP President Satpal Satti told media persons later that the party has given a call for protest demonstrations at all the district headquarters. The party will not take the incident—which is beginning of ‘ goondaism’ in the politics will not be tolerated.
He said through memorandum the party has asked the Governor to dismiss the congress government for allowing ruling party ‘s youth wing to take law in its hands and create a law and order situation.
