A teenager was arrested by the Shivaji Nagar Police on Wednesday on charges of murdering his mother. The suspect,Faheem Qureshi,19, was arrested on basis of the statement given by his younger brother Rais.
The police said Qureshi had killed his mother Sairabano (46) at their house in Govandi’s Bainganwadi area on Wednesday. The victim resided with her two sons in Road 11 area of Bainganwadi.
“Qureshi had come home drunk around 5 pm and demanded money from Sairabano for more alcohol. She refused and an argument ensued; Qureshi assaulted his mother with a metallic vessel on the head. She was left bleeding,” said senior police inspector Radhesham Agarwal.
Agarwal said Qureshi then went to sleep. “She could not move because of the assault. Around 7 pm,when Rais came home,he saw his mother bleeding and called neighbours, who then helped him take her to hospital,” he said.
Sairabano was rushed to Rajawada Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
“She had lost a lot of blood and had suffered wounds on the side of the head. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination,” said Agarwal. The police registered a case against Qureshi after his brother told police officers that he suspected him of killing their mother.
“We questioned Qureshi and he confessed. He has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. We have recorded statements of neighbours in the case. They have told us he is an alcoholic. We are taking down more statements in the case and have recovered the vessel used to bludgeon her,” said Agarwal.
