The Commissioner of North Delhi Municipal Corporation,Praveen Gupta has ordered an inquiry by Additional Commissioner in-charge of the Zone and Chief Engineer of the Zone to find out the reasons.

They have been asked to submit report within three days.

“We received a call at around 7:45 AM about the incident. The building was located in Haji Mehboob Gali of Bara Hindu Rao area. Three people were puled out of the rubble out of which two have died,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sindhu Pillai.

Initially,it was feared that more people were trapped under the debris but no one was found in the rubble. Officials of Delhi Fire Department,Delhi Police and a team of Disaster Management carried out the rescue work at the spot, the official said.

According to a neighbour of the deceased the house owner lived with his three sons,Bunty,Salman and Bobby (36),two daughters-in-law and two grandsons in the building.

“Salman’s wife and son were out of India while Bunty’s wife and son had gone to meet her mother nearby. Bobby, who owns a restaurant in Noida stayed there last night,” he said.

Lanes leading to the collapsed building were so narrow that no heavy earth moving machines were able to reach the spot and the agencies had to arrange around a dozen horses and several carts to clear the debris.

BJP Delhi Chief,Vijay Goel and state Power Minister Haroon Yusuf visited the spot and met the locals and government officials. Yusuf assured for a probe, saying the guilty would be punished.

Police have registered a case of negligence and other relevant provisions of the IPC and further investigations are underway.
