Dehradun police on Thursday arrested a boy from Delhi who allegedly dragged a girl who is said to be his friend. The girl, who belongs to Delhi, was sent to Nari Niketan after her production before a magistrate.
The boy and the girl, who belong to two different communities, had come to the city to celebrate New Year. A group of local shopkeepers allegedly saw in the morning that the girl was being dragged by the boy on the road near the Clock Tower. Soon, a group of local activists of Bajrang Dal also reached the spot. Both the boy and the girl were brought to the Kotwali police station.
“We arrested the boy under section 151 of the Cr PC and sent him to jail. The girl was sent to Nari Niketan after her production before a Magistrate,” Dehradun Circle Officer Manoj Kumar told the Indian Express.
The section 151 of the CrPC deals with the apprehension of breach of peace and tranquility of an area.
Sources said the police have contacted the girl’s family in Delhi who are likely to reach Dehradun tomorrow. On the basis of information collected from the boy and girl, police sources said they had first met in a train about five months back. “They had come to Dehradun to celebrate New Year. They stayed in a lodge near Clock Tower in the city,” a source in the police said.
“We will not tolerate such indecency in public,” said Amit Tomar, who is associated with the city unit of Bajrang Dal. According to him, local shopkeepers had informed the Bajrang Dal about the incident.
