In a relief to environmental activist and director general of Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), Sunita Narain, and four others in a defamation case filed by a chemical firm, the Gujarat High Court Friday stayed the non-bailable warrants issued against them by a magisterial court in Vapi till June 24.
The warrants were issued against the five by the magisterial court with a direction to the police to produce them before the court on June 12.
Apart from Narain, the four others who also have got protection from the HC include Vibha Varshney, Arnab Dutta, Sanjeev Kumar Kanchan and Ankur Paliwal.
The issue pertains to an article that was published in 2011 in a magazine of which Narain is the editor. A Vapi-based chemical firm, United Phosphorous Ltd, had filed the suit against Narain and others contending that the magazine had published the allegedly defamatory article without verifying facts.
