CRPF official killed in gunbattle with Naxals

While the CRPF team came from Giridih, Jamui and Giridih police also joined the anti-Naxal operation late Thursday night.

A CRPF deputy commandant was killed in encounter with Maoists Friday morning in Jamui.

The gunbattle took place in early hours when a joint team of CRPF, Bihar Police and Jharkhand Police gheroed a house at a Village under Khaira police station after a tip-off that over 50 ultras were present there.

When the joint team was closing in on the house, the Maoists started firing and a bullet hit an eye of 42-year-old H N Jha, CRPF’s deputy commandant of seventh battalion. He died on way to a Jamui hospital.

While the CRPF team came from Giridih, Jamui and Giridih police also joined the anti-Naxal operation late Thursday night.

Police arrested four ultras, including two women, from the spot. One of the arrested Maoists was Reena Koda, a Naxal area commander. A police rifle has been also recovered from the ultras.

Khaira is Naxal-affected area in Jamui adjoining Giridih in Jharkhand. CRPF camps are Giridih and Jamui are often called to carry out joint operation with district police.
