The government is planning to set-up “one-stop crisis response centres” for all crimes against women, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi told Lok Sabha Thursday.

“This will be put in every district and will have attached to it a panel of police people, lawyers, a trained caretaker, nurses, counsellors and a rescue vehicle. From the minute a woman complains, she will come in or be brought in, and the machinery to attend to her case will be set in progress. This includes every kind of case from eve teasing to rape and domestic violence,” Maneka said while replying to a discussion on increasing atrocities against women and children.

Maneka said the government has had a series of meetings on how to establish an all India helpline for women. “It exists in Delhi and Gujarat but it needs to work throughout India. This should be in place in the next few months,” she said.

Maneka also said she will work with the Education Ministry on girls’ education.
