The investigation into the death of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife, Sunanda, was transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday. While the department had been conducting a parallel investigation in the case, the case was officially transferred on Thursday.
“The inquest proceedings have been transferred to the Crime Branch,” confirmed Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dharmendra Kumar.
Meanwhile, high-level sources said Tharoor, in his statement to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, said he and Sunanda argued over Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar before her death.
Police sources said Tharoor corroborated the statement given by Sunanda’s attendant Narayan, who had said the couple had been fighting for the past few days, and they had argued over Tarar. Crime Branch officials said that would examine the statements.
Sources said there was no evidence yet to suggest “abetment to suicide”. So far, investigators have claimed that there is no indication of any foul play.
