Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Sunday said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assured him of setting up Patkai Autonomous Council comprising three eastern districts — Tirap, Changlang and Longding — in order to accelerate the development process in the backward districts.
Tuki claimed that Centre gave the assurance when a delegation led by him met Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Sunday, official sources in Itanagar said.

Tuki told Singh that creation of an autonomous council would not only accelerate the development process in these backward districts that share boundary with Myanmar, but also help tackle the insurgent groups more effectively.
A resolution for creation of the Autonomous Council was passed by the state assembly twice in 2004 and 2007, following which a Cabinet proposal was sent to the Union Home Ministry in February, 2014.
