The Patiala police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang of armed robbers during a late night operation on Monday that left a head constable injured.
Patiala SSP Hardial Singh Mann said three persons have been arrested and weapons recovered from them. The accused were wanted in 18 cases.
Mann said a special barricade was laid at SYL GT Road near Khera Gajju village,where the police intercepted a Verna car (HR 54-A-5767).
Inspector Bikramjit Singh Brar signaled the car to stop,but the driver rammed the car into the barricade and opened fire on the police. Head Constable Kirpal Singh was injured in the firing. While three persons were arrested,one accused managed to flee.
The arrested included Harpreet Singh alias Tusa,Lovleen Singh alias Ghuggi and Kulwinder Singh alias Noni — all residents of
A .32 bore revolver along with six cartridges and six empty shells were recovered from Harpreet,which he had allegedly stolen from Ludhiana. A case had been registered in January in this regard. A .9 mm pistol along with seven cartridges was recovered from Lovleen,while Kulwinder had a baseball bat.
