The Congress Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for scrapping all GoMs and EGoMs wondering whether it was “symptomatic of an autocratic regime” to come and noted that “no single person can be repository of all wisdom”.
AICC spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said former PM Manmohan Singh had constituted the GoMs and EGoMs from time to time “to understand, to resolve and to decide upon various ticklish issues of governance by utilising broader collective wisdom of more than one political persons”.
“All GoMs and EGoMs have been dismantled in the garb of asking the ministers to decide issues relating to their own ministry and by directing reference to all policy issues to the PMO. It creates a nagging doubt in the mind of citizens of India whether it is a step towards centralisation of power and whether it will lead to or be symptomatic of an autocratic regime in the future,” he said.
