Lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his attacks on previous governments during a foreign visit, the Congress Monday accused him of embarrassing the country and reducing diplomacy to “event management”.

“PM has earned the dubious distinction of being the first world leader to berate and insult his predecessors on foreign soil and negate India’s proud achievements, just for political partisanship…statecraft and diplomacy are both complex and sensitive. These cannot be reduced to event management or personal projections as an icon. He has embarrassed India many a time by his comments, conduct and grandstanding,” Congress spokesperson R P N Singh said, adding he felt that the PM “loses his mental balance when he goes abroad”.
