Congress retains Jammu seat

Madan Lal Sharma of the Congress defeated his nearest rival Leela Karan Sharma of the BJP by 121373 votes to retain the Jammu Lok Sabha seat.

Madan Lal Sharma of the Congress on Saturday defeated his nearest rival Leela Karan Sharma of the BJP by 121373 votes to retain the Jammu Lok Sabha seat.

The Congress candidate,who won the seat for the second consecutive time,polled 382305 votes while his BJP rival polled 260932 votes.

PDP’s Trilok Singh Bajwa who garnered 93730 votes and JKNPP’s Hassan Ali with 49988 votes finished third and fourth in the constituency.

Soon after being declared the winner from the seat,Madan Lal Sharma said it was a victory of the Congress’s development plan for Jammu and Kashmir undertaken by the previous government.

“I will now bring special package for Jammu for exclusive development of the region”,he said.
