The state Congress on Tuesday accused Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy,Sukhbir Singh Badal,of allegedly promoting defaulters and cheaters to the post of Kapurthala Zila Parishad chairman. This comes after Badal nominated Bhupinder Singh,son-in-law of SAD MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur for the post. Kaur, convicted for the death of her daughter,is currently out on bail.
Urging the father-son duo to reconsider their decision in public interest,Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira said: Bhupinder has recently cheated and defrauded Punjab and Sindh Banks Begowal branch of Rs 2.05 crore. A loan of Rs 3.50 crore was sanctioned,of which,Rs 2.05 crore was given as advance to build a school. While it was never constructed, the advance has also not been deposited.
He added that the loan was taken by providing fake papers of a common property belonging to Bhupinders wifes uncle,Bawa Virender Singh also from Begowal.
Two managers of the Begowal branch Gurmail Singh of Bhadas village and Gurmail Singh of Passiewal village have been chargesheeted for advancing the loan on fake documents, Khaira said. He further claimed that in a Rs 5-crore embezzlement and cheque bounce case, real estate giant Omaxe has moved court against Bhupinder in Delhi. The fraud was done by Ozone Estates Pvt Ltd,in which Bhupinder is a director, said Khaira.
The CM has left no stone unturned in promoting and shielding Bibi Jagir Kaur. Despite facing murder charges, the CM nominated Kaur to fight three Assembly elections from Bholath. He even elevated Kaur as a minister in 2012 but had to drop her after she was convicted, he added.
Despite repeated attempts,Bhupinder Singh could not be contacted.
