Days before the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is sworn in,the Congress seems wracked by second thoughts. Both the party’s senior leadership and its MLAs are divided over the decision to support the AAP in the Assembly.

Even as six of the Congress’s eight MLAs planned to meet party president Sonia Gandhi to underscore the importance of continuing to support the AAP and avoiding another election, the other two MLAs were learnt to be dissenting.

A senior MLA said,“Two MLAs are not in favour of supporting the AAP,along with several other senior leaders who lost the election. However, some MLAs are of the opinion that we must avoid another election as we could end up doing even worse.” He added that the six MLAs would try to meet Sonia on Wednesday.

Over the last two days,Congress workers have protested outside the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) and AICC offices against supporting the AAP. Former chief minister Sheila Dikshit said on Monday,“Some people in the party seem to be distressed over the decision to support another party in Delhi.”

Meanwhile,DPCC president Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote a letter to the AAP,demanding to know its roadmap for governance. Prahlad Singh Sawhney,Congress MLA from Chandni Chowk, said,“The letter seeks from AAP its plans after forming the government like how they plan to reduce power tariff, supply 700 litres of water…”

Lovely’s letter comes just a day after the Congress clarified that their support to AAP was not unconditional. Arvind Kejriwal,in a two-minute video on the Internet, had vowed to investigate the Congress’ role in government irregularities.
