Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Saturday announced that state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau will probe the charges of corruption and irregularities,including those relating to illegal phone tapping,during the previous Prem Kumar Dhumal-led BJP regime in Himachal Pradesh.
The announcement came during the Congress General House meeting amidst demands of setting up of a one-man commission to probe the charges.
AICC general secretary Birender Singh told the party men that the state government will soon acquire a certified copy of the Congresss chargesheet already submitted to President Pranab Mukherjee last year and will forward same to the Vigilance Bureau for further investigations.
There will be a thorough probe into all allegations,including illegal land sale to outsiders such as yoga guru Baba Ramdev,social activist Prashant Bhushan,the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Associations hotel (The Pavilion) or private universities and other scams listed in the chargesheet. It will be made time bound so that guilty are brought to justice for looting the resources of the state and misusing the power, Virbhadra announced endorsing Birenders statement.
The first General House convened by new PCC president Sukhwinder Singh,also had former Union Minister Sukh Ram,cabinet ministers Vidya Stokes,Kaul Singh Thakur,G S Bali,Mukesh Agnihotri,AICC secretary Aneesh Ahmed and former PCC chiefs and MLAs in attendance. This was first major party summit after Congress returned to power under Virbhadras leadership.
The Congress,which promised the massses to inquire into all allegations of corruption,misuse of power and selling out of vital interests of the state,its resources must get it probed. Even Uttarakhand government had constituted a commission and one of its recommendations was accepted by the government. Similarly,here Virbhadraji,proposes to get the investigations done by the Vigilance Bureau, Birender Singh said.
Lashing out against the previous BJP government on phone tapping,the AICC general secretary said nobody has the right to infringe upon privacy of any individual. Lakhs of telephone calls were illegally intercepted during the BJP regime, he said.
We have already entrusted the matter to the Vigilance Bureau. It is a time bound probe and should not take more than two months, Virbhadra said.
The issue of re-naming of several centrally funded schemes launched on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayees name also came in focus. At this PCC president Sukhwinder Singh said: The BJP had tried to gain political mileage by starting the schemes under Vajpayees brand name.
