Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday announced that the government will provide an assured marketing mechanism coupled with better remunerative price to basmati rice growers in Punjab.
A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting with a deputation of Punjab Rice Millers and Export Association. A spokesperson of the Chief Ministers Office said Badal called upon the rice millers and exporters to play a proactive role for motivating farmers for basmati cultivation to enhance their income and also achieve the target to bring 10 lakh hectare of land under Basmati cultivation in the next three years.
To provide an assured market mechanism,coupled with better remunerative price to basmati growers,Badal also constituted a panel headed by the chairman Punjab Farmers Commission and representatives of Basmati growers,rice millers and exporters as members to fix an assured price of Basmati well before its plantation every year.
In another significant decision,the CM decided to exempt Rural Development Fund (2 per cent),Punjab Infrastructure Development Fund (3 per cent) and Market fee (2 per cent) on Basmati and its different varieties under the new diversification policy. This will boost Basmati cultivation by extending a benefit of Rs 200 crore to the trade, Badal said.
Rs 1-lakh subsidy for solar pump sets
The government on Wednesday set up a special fund of Rs 5 crore to provide Rs 1 lakh subsidy on installation of 500 solar irrigation pump sets in the next one year. Non-Conventional Energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was aimed at promoting clean energy on one side and incentive to farmers opting for diversification,on the other.
