Combining the traditional Mizo practice of “hnatlang” or collective work with modern social-media campaign through hashtags (#), CM Lal Thanhawla on Friday launched the Clean Mizoram campaign with an exhortation “to make the state India’s cleanest”.

Lal Thanhawla kicked off the campaign at the state capital Aizawl by sweeping a stretch of road in the city’s main market area along with his Council of Ministers at 7.30 am.

Statewide, local units of mass-based voluntary organisations and school students as well as officials in every government department cleaned up their own localities, campuses and offices.

As planned and announced by the government’s information machinery, people uploaded pictures and short captions of their “hnatlang” with the hashtag #cleanmizoram on social media.
