Three persons were injured and several makeshift shops set ablaze on Sunday when two communities clashed in Mainpuri district of UP after finding a couple in a compromising position inside a cellphone shop at Alipur Khera village in Bhogaon area.
Members of the Hindu community pelted stones and torched the shop belonging to a Muslim man. Two vehicles were also damaged in the clash. Police had to use mild force to bring the situation under control, said ASP, Mainpuri, Swami Nath. The youth, identified as 28-year-old Tasleem alias Banti, was arrested on charges of rape after the woman’s father lodged an FIR.
Superintendent of Police, Mainpuri, Shrikant Singh said a case of violence would also be registered. Heavy police force have been deployed at the village to avoid any untoward incident.
Banti, a local resident, is married and has two children, while the woman, who lives around 5 km from Alipur Khera, is also married to a youth from Ghaziabad. She visited her parent’s house last month and had been staying in Mainpuri since then.
Station Officer, Bhogaon, Pehlad Singh said Sunday Banti and the woman reached the shop owned by Banti’s friend. After they went inside, the owner pulled down the shutter and came out. Some Hindu youths standing outside became suspicious and alerted others who forcibly entered the shop to find them in a compromising state, he added.
