The Central Insecticides Board (CIB) has issued a showcause notice to German-based MNC M/s Bayer CropScience, asking the company to explain how without getting its fungicide Raxil registered with the CIB,it was used by the Haryana government to treat wheat crop disease — Karnal Bunt.

The CIB mentioned this on Wednesday while submitting its reply in the Punjab and Haryana High Court which was hearing a PIL filed by a NGO on the mandatory use of a fungicide,Raxil 2 DS,for control of wheat crop diseases, including loose smut, flag smut and karnal bunt.

Petitioner NGO Bhiwani Sudhar and Vikas Samiti had pointed out that since the manufacturing company has never got its fungicide registered with CIB for treatment of Karnal bunt, the company has violated the provisions of insecticides act. The petitioner had also demanded registration of a criminal case against Haryana government officials and sought a CBI probe into the case.

The NGO had alleged that Haryana made use of Raxil mandatory for seed growers to attain pecuniary benefits.
