GURDASPUR: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said the Chotta Ghalughara monument,built in the memory of Sikhs killed in the massacre of 1746,will be developed and modernised to attract more tourists. Badal,who visited the memorial,said functions will also be held annually at the monument to highlight the sacrifices made by the martyrs. Dignitaries from across the globe will be invited to apprise them about the rich history of Punjab,he added.

Pratibha for MBBS course at ESI hospital

SHIMLA: Mandi MP Pratibha Singh,has urged Union Minister for Labour and Employment Sis Ram Ola to start MBBS courses at the upcoming ESI Medical College and Hospital in Mandi from next academic year. In a letter to the minister,the Congress MP also sought Rs 1,000 crore funds for infrastructure development at the college and hospital. “The state government was willing to sign a MoU with the Union ministry to allow use of all equipment,machinery,manpower and infrastructure of the Mandi Zonal Hospital to facilitate medical students for now,” she added.

New cricket body comes up in HP

SHIMLA: A new district cricket body — Shimla District Cricketers Forum — has come up in Himachal Pradesh with an aim to challenge to the Anurag Thakur-led Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA). A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of cricketers — belonging to the Shimla district — held in Shimla at the initiative of cricketer Dinesh Thakur. “Over 250 players had gathered from all over the district to show their displeasure and dismay over the present state of cricket in the district,” a statement by the body said.

Monsoon weakens

in Himachal

Shimla: Barring moderate rains at isolated places,the weather remained mainly dry in Himachal Pradesh as monsoon showed signs of weakening in the region. Dharamsala in Kangra district recorded 52 mm of rains while Jubbal received 28 mm rains,followed by Dalhousie 17 mm,Kasauli and Jogindernagar 13 mm and Shimla 12 mm.

SAD general delegate session on Tuesday
