Chandrapur again: Tiger kills woman; killer leopard caught

Forest department officials,meanwhile,captured the problem leopard of Adegaon that had killed a man and a woman.

“It’s a female,” DFO Kalyan Kumar said. “We have moved the animal to Moharli nursery and had her checked by a vet. She is fine,” he said,adding,“We compared photographs of a leopard that had killed a woman five days ago near Sadagadh in Saoli range with this one. They are different animals.”

Thursday,a tiger killed Lalita Pendam from Pathri village in Brahmapuri area of Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM). The 50-year old had gone to collect mahua flowers in the jungle with other women.

“The women spread out to collect the flowers. Pendam was alone on patch near a nullah when the tiger pounced on her,” G N Dhapodkar,divisional manager,FDCM,Brahmapuri,said.

“We have made an ex gratia payment of Rs 25,000 to the family and installed cages to trap the tiger,” he said.
