NRHM scam: CBI may quiz BSP chief Mayawati to unravel ‘larger conspiracy’

CBI will soon be examining former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati in connection with alleged swindling of funds in the implementation of centrally funded National Rural Health Mission scam.

BSP supremo Mayawati may soon face heat from the CBI, which is preparing to question her in connection with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam.

Sources in the central agency said Mayawati would be questioned as she was the CM of Uttar Pradesh when the scam, allegedly involving misappropriation of over Rs 10,000 crore, took place.

Mayawati would also be questioned over her government’s May 5, 2010, decision to separate the health and family welfare ministries and appoint two chief medical officers in each district for each of the ministries, said the sources.

In July 2010, the Union health and family welfare ministry had written to the state government, objecting to the bifurcation of the ministry, but the Mayawati government allegedly ignored it.
