CBI arrests CEO of Censor Board

The two were later remanded to police custody till August 20 by a special CBI court.

The CBI arrested Rakesh Kumar, CEO of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), on Monday, three days after it arrested two persons associated with the board and seized from them Rs 70,000 which was to be paid to Kumar allegedly as a bribe to clear a regional movie.

According to CBI officials, they were able to link the bribe money to Kumar based on the evidence collected from his office and residence in the last three days.

Acting on a tip-off, the CBI had on Friday conducted a raid and arrested Shripati Mishra, authorised agent for CBFC, and Sarvesh Jaiswal, advisory panel member with the board. The two were later remanded to police custody till August 20 by a special CBI court. The two were arrested on a complaint filed by another authorised agent for censor certification following allegations that Mishra was demanding a bribe on behalf of Rakesh Kumar for clearing a regional movie from Chhattisgarh named Mor Dauki Ke Bihav, which had come to the censor board for a certification as its producers were looking for a  August 15 release.

Kumar, who has been booked under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, will be produced in the CBI court Tuesday. The FIR registered by the probe agency says Mishra and Jaiswal were acting on behalf of Kumar.
