A head on collision between a truck and bus on Sirhind-Patiala road near Nandpur Keshon,around 20 kms from Sirhind left six people dead on the spot.
The accident took place on Sunday morning at around 7.50 am and 27 passengers travelling in the bus were also injured.
The bus which was travelling from Bathinda to Chandigarh via Sirhind was ferrying around 35 employees of Pali Caterers,a Chandigarh based catering company and 4 of them namely Fateh Chand,Robert,Sahib Singh and Shekhar were dead.
The bus driver Charanjit Singh and truck driver Kanwaljit Singh both died on the spot. 27 injured were taken to Rajindra Hospital,Patiala for treatment. The truck was travelling from Sirhind to Patiala and had Haryana registration number while the bus was registered with Punjab.
The police after initial investigation registered FIR against truck driver Kanwaljit Singh under sections 279,337,427 and 304(a) of IPC. Talking to Express,Ajav Singh,SHO Mullepur police station said,”Accident happened in morning so fog might have been a factor but as per investigation,the truck driver was driving negligently and truck was over speeding before hitting the bus. FIR is registered against truck driver.”
Arun Sekhri,deputy commissioner Fategarh Sahib told that ‘grant of Rs 1 lakh for families of dead and Rs 25,000 each for injured has been announced by CM Parkash Singh Badal.’
