Brothers use FB to lure, shoot father’s ‘killer’

The two boys had tried to murder Kundan, the main suspect in killing of their father Arvind Singh in 2010, twice earlier, but they failed.

Two brothers have been arrested for allegedly luring the suspected murderer of their father through the fake Facebook profile of a girl and shooting him dead outside a coffee shop here.

Rohit Kumar (23) and Rahul Kumar (22) and one of their friends, now in police custody, allegedly lured Kundan Kumar Sharma for a meeting by pretending to be a girl on the social networking site. Kundan was shot dead at 8.30 pm on June 20 after he reached a Cafe Coffee Day outlet on Purulia Road for the planned meeting.  This was the accused third attempt to kill Kundan.

The two boys had tried to murder Kundan, the main suspect in killing of their father Arvind Singh in 2010, twice earlier, but they failed. “Kundan had a criminal background, so we reached the boys through a process of elimination,” said SP (City) Anup Birthare. “There is a 2012 attempt to murder case against the boys and two of their friends after they shot at Kundan. Another attempt was in December 2012, when the police had nabbed two shooters who admitted that Arvind Singh’s family had hired them to kill Kundan,” he said.

Arvind and Kundan were friends at one point and used to work together on construction contracts. “When his wife registered a case against him for domestic violence, Kundan suspected Arvind was behind it and murdered him,” said SP Birthare. Kundan, who was on bail, was reportedly threatening Arvind’s family. The boys later plotted to kill Kundan by establishing contact through a fake Facebook account of girl and setting up a meeting with him. Police stumbled upon this angle when they went after an unexplained fact. “After getting out of jail, Kundan had moved from his Jagannathpur house to a new flat in Namkum. He knew there was threat to his life and avoided the Lalpur area of the city. So, we were at a loss as to why he had turned up dead on Purulia Road, which is close to Lalpur,” said the SP.

During interrogation, the three boys — including friend Gunish Arora — spilled the beans on the Facebook plot. “The Cyber Cell has helped us in obtaining their chat histories, which will go into evidence. We have also recovered the two guns used to shoot Kundan,” said Birthare.
