MUMBAI: All eyes will be on former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar as a two-day state convention of NCP to possibly set the party agenda for the 2014 elections begins Saturday. Ajit had skipped an NCP national meeting earlier this month. Over 5,000 delegates,including ministers,would attend the convention in Pune. All top party leaders,including President Sharad Pawar,his daughter and MP Supriya Sule and Ajit,would address it. The prevailing political situation and FDI in retail would be discussed,among other issues.

NCP leaders said on Friday Pawar Sr was in Pune and would attend the two-day session.

Gawli shifted to Nagpur prison

Nagpur: Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli,sentenced to life imprisonment in the Shiv Sena Corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar murder case,has been shifted to the Central Prison here. The former MLA from Mumbai was brought to the city amidst tight security by road last evening from Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai,police sources said today.

Sena leader attack: MCOCA invoked

Thane: Thirteen suspected Chhota Rajan gang members have been booked under MCOCA for allegedly organising an attack on Thane Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Ghatge in July this year. The 13 were arrested separately last month. Police said the accused fired at Ghatge over old enmity. He survived.

MCOCA against chain-snatchers

Thane: Thane Police slapped MCOCA on Friday on 68 alleged chain-snatchers. The accused include 15 women,three gang leaders,and jeweller Vasant Dedia. They were allegedly involved in more than 300 cases of chain-snatching in and around Thane,the police said.
