Jalandhar: Two robbers chopped off the left hand of a scarp dealer when he resisted their attempt to rob him of Rs 200,police said. Santokh Lal was returning to his Gudka village after buying scrap from nearby villages when two motorcycle-borne youths stopped him tried to snatch his money. As Lal resisted,robbers attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and chopped off his left hand,police said,adding that he was later admitted to the Civil Hospital in Phillaur. A a case of attempt to murder has been registered. No arrests have been made yet.

Husband gets life for murdering wife

Moga: Holding one Resham Singh guilty of brutally murdering his wife Baljinder Kaur,a Moga court Tuesday sentenced him to life imprisonment and slapped on him a fine of Rs 10,000. Nirmal Singh,a relative of deceased,who had registered the case against the accused,told the court that Resham killed Baljinder after she refused to demand a share in the money that her grandmother had earned after selling a piece of land.

Couple commit suicide in Pathankot

Pathankot: A couple,who got married after running away from their homes just a couple of days ago,today committed suicide at Bhoa village,about 20 km from here,allegedly by consuming poison as their parents were against their marriage. In their purported suicide note,however,they mentioned,they were responsible for taking their lives and their parents should not be held responsible. Lakhwinder Singh,a resident of Joon Chak village,of Gurdaspur district,was a bank employee and was in love with Manjit Kaur who resides in Malik Chak village,police said. However,their parents did not approve of their relationship after which they ran away from their homes and got married at a religous place on Sunday,police said
