JALANDHAR: A photographer of Hindustan Times was attacked by the driver and conductor of a mini bus on Thursday morning when he was helping a man who was hit and injured by the same bus. Police arrested both the driver and conductor. Pardeep Pandit was on his motorcycle with his colleague near DAV College Canal when they saw a minibus hit a cyclist. The driver tried to flee but Pardeep went to stop him while his colleague went to help the injured man. “I asked the bus driver to take the injured man to the hospital but he started arguing,He agreed only when people gathered around,” said Pandit who followed the bus to the hospital but found that the driver had left the man outside Joshi hospital and was trying to run away. Pardeep stopped him and asked him to pay for the treatment as well as repair of the injured man’s bicycle. But the driver and conductor and another passenger attacked Pardeep with bricks and wooden stick leaving him injured.

Focus on drug lords: MLA to Sukhbir

JALANDHAR: Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh on Thursday told Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said that to tackle drug menace in Punjab,he needs to focus on high-level drug lords rather than on petty criminals. In a letter to Sukhbir,the MLA has said that even though the number of arrests have increased,the volume of heroin entering the state has also gone up.

KU bags MAKA award

CHANDIGARH: The Kurukshetra University (KU) has bagged the second position in the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for 2012-13. “In a communication received from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports,it has been confirmed that KU has stood

Minibus operators seek fare hike

CHANDIGARH: Minibus operators in Punjab on Thursday requested the state government to raise bus fares and reduce passenger tax in wake of rising input costs. A delegation of operators met Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and demanded that minimum fare be raised to Rs 10 from the existing Rs 7.

Haryana Vigilance arrests two for graft

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Vigilance Bureau has arrested Technical Assistant Satyavir Singh Lohan and Computer Operator Ravi Chahal in the Rohtak agriculture department while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from Rakesh Kumar,a resident of Rohtak’s Kabulpur,in lieu of issuing license for his shop. In a separate case,the Vigilance arrested Inspector Satyawan of Audit Cooperative Societies at Kurukshetra’s Ladwa while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from one Sham Lal in lieu of audit report for leave encashment.

2 IAS,4 PCS officers shifted


CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has issued posting and transfer orders of two IAS and four PCS officers. While IAS officer Rahul Tiwari has been posted as Amritsar DC,Rajat Agarwal (IAS) has been made the DC of Ludhiana. Among the four PCS officers,Gurmit Singh has been posted as Khanna ADC and Rajat Oberoi as Amritsar assistant commissioner (General).

12 PCS officers to be promoted

CHANDIGARH: The Union Public Service Commission on Thursday cleared the name of 12 PCS officers to be promoted to IAS. The 12 PCS officers promoted included Manjit Singh Brar,Sukhvinder Singh,G S Ghumman,M S Jaggi and P S Gill.

Badal appoints Sud as political adviser

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday appointed senior BJP leader and former minister Tikshan Sud as his political adviser. Sood replaces state BJP chief Kamal Sharma.
