The Dharohar Museum in Kurukshetra University (KU) on Monday organised a function to commemorate the martyrdom day. Speaking on the occasion,Lt Gen DDS Sandhu,Vice-Chancellor of KU,said: People of Haryana are ahead of people of other Indian states in martyrdom. Although Haryanas population is only two per cent of the countrys total population,the number of people in armed forces from Haryana is 15 per cent. He also said: The young generation should learn from the sacrifices made by these martyrs.
Senior journalist cremated
Principal Correspondent of Hindustan Times Jasdeep Singh Malhotra (41),who died on Sunday in a fatal accident at Milwan village near Mukerian,was cremated here on Monday,with hundreds of people from all walks of life paying tributes to him. R Venkatratnam,Commissioner,Jalandhar Division,laid a wreath on behalf of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam laid wreath on behalf of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Woman sets herself ablaze in guesthouse
A woman committed suicide at a guesthouse near the Golden Temple on Monday,police said. Identified as Aarti,a resident of Ambala,she set herself ablaze inside her room at 5.30 pm. C division SHO Jarnail Singh said no suicide note was found and investigation is on. The deceased was in her mid-30s and married.
Govt gives nod for tie-up with Oracle
To enhance quality of technical education in the state,the Punjab government has given its nod to Technical Education Department to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with American data base company Oracle.
Bajwa condemns Peshawar attack
Partap Singh Bajwa,president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee,on Monday strongly condemned terrorist attacks on Christian,Ahmadiya,Hindu and Sikh communities in Pakistan. A suicide bomber had killed over 80 at All Saints Church in Peshawar on Sunday,while several Ahmadiya congregations,Hindus and Sikhs and their congregations have been targeted in the past.
Bank locker holders get compensation
Eight months after the high profile bank robbery at Punjab and Sindh bank,the bank finally released compensation worth Rs 3 crore to 26 locker holders,while compensation of four locker holders were put on hold as they are abroad at present.
