Doc,former BSF jawan held with drugs

Faridkot: Manjeet Kaur,a Jalandhar-based physiotherapist and Sarup Dev,a former BSF jawan,were arrested with drugs in separate incidents and sent to 14 days’ judicial remand on Tuesday. While Kaur was found carrying 200 gram heroin in her Alto car; Dev was carrying 2.8 gram of opium along with him.

Modi,VK Singh to take part in Rewari rally

Rewari: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and former Army Chief V K Singh will take part in the party’s ex-servicemen rally here on September 15. Haryana BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma told reporters on Tuesday that elaborate arrangements are being put in place for the rally,which would be addressed by Modi,among others. Modi,who had been in-charge of the party’s affairs in Haryana,had himself singled out Rewari as the rally’s venue,Sharma added.

All set for finance team’s visit

Chandigarh: All necessary arrangements have been made by the Punjab government for the visit of 14th Finance Commission team from September 5 to 7,2013. Divulging this here on Tuesday,an official spokesperson said that the team of 17 members,under the chairmanship of Dr Y V Reddy,would meet the representatives of rural & urban local bodies of the state and representatives of trade and industry on September 6. He said that the team would also hold a meeting with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal along with other cabinet ministers and officers of the state on September 7.

Woman,son held with drugs

Patiala: The Patiala police has arrested a mother-son duo for selling intoxicating drugs from their house in Nabha. The police seized 50,000 intoxicating tablets,500 gm intoxicating powder,380 intoxicating capsules,75 kg of other intoxicating powder,three cars and Rs 2,42,000 from the duo during a raid. SSP Patiala Hardial Singh Mann said the house was raided by his team of officers who arrested Bikramjit Singh and his mother Gurmit Kaur with large amounts of drugs.

12 police officers transferred

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government today transferred 12 police officers. Among others,Tulsi Ram has been transferred and posted as Commandant,80th Battalion,PAP,Jalandhar,Babul Lal Meena has been posted as AIG/Prov.,CPO,Punjab,Chandigarh,Varinderpal Singh,PPS,has been posted as AIG/FIU,Intelligence,Punjab,Chandigarh and Gurpreet Singh Gill,PPS,has been posted as Zonal AIG/ CID,Patiala.

Punjab takes steps to increase forest cover

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has declared 30.36 hectares of land in Pathankot district as protected forest. This land was purchased by Punjab government from the open market for expanding forest cover in the state. Disclosing this here today a Punjab government spokesman said that notification for the same has been issued.
