Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday criticised the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and BJP for neglecting Fatehabad,when they were in power. While speaking at a public rally in Tohana,Hooda said,“The INLD-BJP government during its six-year tenure spent only Rs 488.15 crore on Fatehabad,while the present government had so far spent Rs 2192.93 crore on various development projects”. Hooda announced that a government polytechnic institute will be set up in Tohana.

Haryana: 1,448 graft cases filed last year

Chandigarh: “Haryana’s Lokayukta received 1,448 corruption complaints in the past one year,of which action has already been taken on 900 cases,while investigation was going on in the remaining cases,” said Justice Pritam Pal (retd) of the Haryana Lokayukta. He added that pending cases would be disposed of soon. “In these cases,the maximum number of complaints are related to the police and Revenue and Food Supply Departments.

AAP to campaign in Haryana,Delhi

Chandigarh: Social activist Arvind Kejrival-led Aam Aadmi Party’s Haryana faction on Sunday announced that the party would contest in the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha polls in Delhi. Party member Yogender Yadav said,“With an aim to contest in Delhi Assembly polls,the party has launched a comprehensive campaign in Haryana and Delhi. Owing to the wrong policies of the government,Kejrival has to sit on a hunger strike”.

Carpenter held for ‘harrassing’ girl

Jalandhar: A carpenter has been arrested by the Jalandhar commissionerate police for allegedly harrassing a girl over the phone. Police said the accused had threatened to commit suicide if the girl did not agree to marry her. On the complaint of the girl,Surjit Sing of Chak Kalan was arrested near Nakodar.

’Need specialised workforce for tourism’

Chandigarh: With a view to promote tourism in the state,Sarwan Singh Phillaur,Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister,Punjab,has stressed on the need to engage a highly specialised workforce to attract tourists. After receiving the National Tourism Award from President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi for the Amritsar Heritage Walk,Phillaur on Sunday said that the ‘Heritage Walk’ was organised by the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board to enable tourists to discover the 400-year old history of the city.

Agro-processing unit set up in Faridkot

Faridkot: An agro-processing complex,Gill Agro Food Products,has been established at Dhurkot village,Faridkot,under the guidance of the Department of Processing and Food Engineering of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The plant has a wheat flour milling unit,oil expeller with filter press and dana chakki. Dr Tarsem Chand,Extension Engineer,PAU,said such plants were a good source for farmers.

Three booked in murder case

Amritsar: Police registered a case of murder against three people on Saturday after a woman alleged that her son was killed by the trio. The complainant,Rajwant Kaur,said her son,Lovepreet,was last seen outside a mall in Amritsar with the three accused. Maqboolpura SHO Jagbinder Singh said a missing report was filed on March 8. “The mother of Lovepreet has now named three people whom she suspects killed her son and destroyed his body. We are investigating the case,” the SHO said.
