Shimla: The Cong ress Legislature Party,which met late Monday evening,cleared the name of Jagat Singh Negi,a two-time MLA fr om tribal district of Kinnaur as Deputy Speaker. Though election of the Deputy Speaker is slated for Wednesday,insiders say if there is no other nomination of the Opposition for the post,Negi may be elected as early as Tuesday. Congress has appointed Jag Jivan Pal as deputy chief whip beside two first-time MLAs Ajay Mahajan and I D Lakhanpal as CLP’s whips.

Speeding schoolbus over turns,22 hurt

Hoshiarpur: Around 22 students were injured in Hoshiarpur Monday after the schoolbus they were travelling in overturned. The speeding bus was carrying the students of Baba Manjh Convent school when the mishap occurred on Hoshiarpur Dasuya road. Eyewitness said the bus driver was speeding and overtook a car,in order to avoid hitting a motorcyclist coming from the opposite side the driver took a sharp cut and overturned the bus.

Join action group for road safety

Chandigarh: The Punjab overnment has initiated an elaborate drive to ensure that road safety norms are properly implemented. A Joint Action Group involving the departments of Education,Forest and Police has been formed for the purpose. The decisioin was taken at a meeting of the Punjab State Road Safety Council,held on Monday.

PIL against farming society over fraud

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notices to Haryana Senior Superintendent of Police,All India Organic Farming Society,Railway Road Hisar and its president Rajesh Beniwal,on a PIL filed by P P Kapoor. The petitioner has sought investigation into the conduct of aforesaid society in inviting applications through public notice dated Sep 27,2012,for 885 posts of various cadres and collecting huge amount from a large number of unemployed persons all over India by way of applications fee of Rs 400 per application ( from general candidates) and Rs 250 from S.C/ S.T candidates,by giving misleading impression that this society was an organisation fully funded by National Bank For Agriculture and Rural Development.

Seven packets of ‘heroin’ seized

Gurdaspur: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized seven packets of suspected heroin in the of Border Post Choura of Gurdaspur Sector,on Monday.
