Boyfriend held, says marriage refusal may have led to suicide
Boyfriend of the Rohtak-based engineering student who had committed suicide last week, was arrested by the police on Saturday.
Boyfriend of the Rohtak-based engineering student who had committed suicide last week, was arrested by the police on Saturday. He,however, denied blackmailing the girl on the basis of her “obscene pictures or any videos”.
The 19-year-old girl,Monika, had ended her life by consuming insecticide on the terrace of Chhotu Ram Polytechnic College in Rohtak. Her suicide note mentioned that she was being blackmailed by a boy on the basis of her obscene pictures and videos. Based on the note, the Rohtak police arrested her boyfriend Ankush and produced him in the court. Ankush,20,is a student of a private college in Behrana village of Rohtak district.
The court remanded Ankush in three days’ police custody,as the prosecution pleaded that they wanted to recover the allegedly objectionable pictures and videos of the victim.
However, during interrogation Ankush alleged that he did not blackmail the girl, rather she was putting pressure on him for marrying her. “The boy told us that he had refused to marry the girl, because of which she committed suicide. Both Monika and Ankush were involved in a relationship for more than a year. After checking Monika’s call records,we came to know that the two used to talk frequently on phone”,said Umed Singh,Station House Officer,Civil Lines police station,Rohtak.
He added: “So far we have not recovered any objectionable pictures or videos from Ankush’s possession. We will produce him in court tomorrow. Prima facie it does not appear a case of blackmailing but we are still investigating.”
Monika’s father Devender Singh told The Indian Express: “I do not know what the police are doing. I learnt they have arrested a boy who was having an affair with my girl. So far they have not recovered any objectionable pictures or videos. The police claim there were no such videos or pictures. If this is the case, why would my daughter write it in her suicide note. The police needs to do a detailed investigation.”
