Bodies of UP cousins found hanging; family alleges rape, murder

Earlier, the relatives of the victims and the locals did not allow the police to take the bodies in custody for over six hours.

Two cousins aged 14 and 15 were found hanging from a tree in a field at Katra Sahadatganj village in Usaid police station area in Budaun district Wednesday. Their family members alleged that the girls, missing since Tuesday afternoon, were gangraped and murdered before being hanged. They have named three brothers of the same village in the FIR.

Earlier, the relatives of the victims and the locals did not allow the police to take the bodies in custody for over six hours. The bodies kept hanging from the tree till senior officials arrived and pacified the people.  Additional Superintendent of Police, Badaun, Man Singh Chauhan said the postmortem examination is being conducted by a panel of doctors and that the entire process will be videographed.

Two constables, Sarvesh Kumar and Chatrapal Singh, posted with the local police station, have been suspended for allegedly turning away the family members of the two girls when they had come to lodge their missing complaint. The family members alleged that the constables also beat them up.

DGP, Headquarters, confirmed that the two constables have been suspended and named in the FIR for not acting upon the information given by the complainants while the girls were found dead next morning.  Station Officer, Usaid police station, Ganga Singh said, on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim’s family, an FIR has been lodged against brothers Pappu, Brijesh and Awadhesh and constables Chhatrapal and Sarvesh.

Circle Officer, Ujaini area, Mukesh Kumar Saxena said the two girls had on Tuesday afternoon left home for some work. When they did not return home till late evening, their family members began searching for them. Later, they family went to Katra Bazaar police outpost to lodge a missing complaint. The SO said the locals on Wednesday morning spotted the bodies of the two girls hanging from a tree outside the village and informed their parents.
