For the first time,MLAs from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have been inducted in the wild life advisory board replacing all the BJP MLAs. The Forest and Wildlife Department is with BJP Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani who is also the vice-chairman of the board while Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is the chairman.
In the SAD-BJP combine, the forest department has always been with the BJP and the three elected MLAs always picked from the party. However for the first time, the BJP forest minister has named three SAD MLAs: Dr Daljit Singh Cheema,Sukhjeet Kaur Sahi- MLA Dasuya and Surinder Singh Thekedar -MLA Mahilpur as members apart from 15 others picked from private organisations.
The move has not been welcomed by BJP leaders. The BJP minister should have appointed BJP MLAs as members. This is an attempt to demoralise BJP leadership, said a senior BJP leader.
Meanwhile,Jayani, said: The three elected MLAs have to be part of the wild life board, while I am the vice-chiarman,Badal is the chairman. So suggestions of party presidents of SAD and BJP were considered and accordingly we appointed the new members.
When asked as why not even a single BJP MLA was appointed,Jayani said: It hardly matters. We took the decision as per the recommendations.
Kamal Sharma, president of state BJP,said: The appointment of MLAs took place in mid-January when I just took over the charge,so it did not come to my notice. I will look into this matter and if needed,BJP will suggest changes in the advisory board.
