Around 40 Dalit families in a Gaya village embraced Christianity on Thursday during a prayer meet, which was attended by a few missionaries from nearby churches.
CM Jeetan Ram Manjhi has ordered a probe into the matter, even as police said the Atiya villagers chose Christianity “willingly”. Those who converted belonged to BPL families and were daily wage labourers. Manjhi, who was in Gaya Thursday, said: “I have asked the DM to probe the matter. If the conversion is willing, nothing can be done. If there is any hint of allurements, there must be a higher probe.”
No police complaint has so far been lodged, said Gaya SSP Nishant Kumar Tiwari, adding the matter is being probed.
