BFUHS: Letter claims tampering with marks

Year-old document states marks of nursing students altered

All IS not well at the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) Faridkot as several letters written to varsity authorities over the past few years have exposed cases of alleged tampering of marks.

Recently,a year old letter exposed how the award list of six second year students of BSc (Nursing) were changed by violating all norms.

Authorities however, claimed that this was not a case of tampering. They said that due to strict marking in a particular subject, the students got their answer sheets re-assessed which led to variations in marks.

A letter from the examination branch of the university (a copy of which is available with The Indian Express),revealed that the marks of six students have been changed in Pharmacology,Pathology and Genetic-B.

On noticing this malpractice, the then Superintendent in the Examination Branch of the University, wrote a letter (copy of which is available with The Indian Express) to the Registrar stating that marks of six students have been tampered in connivance with the then Controller of Examination.

The roll numbers of these students were mentioned in the letter in which the marks of two students were decreased from 16 to 11 and 16 to 7 while the marks of four candidates increased from 15 to 19 and and 18 to 19.

The former Superintendent Examination pointed that the original award list was taken away from her on the pretext that Controller of Examination wanted to see it. The next day the original award list was destroyed and a new one was handed to her with the marks changed, she said in the letter.

The matter was brought to the notice of Registrar and Vice Chancellor. The VC,S S Gill, when contacted said after results were declared, the percentage was quite low and the opinion of the examiner was sought on the question paper of one subject. The experts said that the paper was tough and the answer sheets re-assessed.

On being asked why the marks of two students had gone down despite “lenient” re-marking,the VC said he would get it checked. The Registrar Dr. D S Sidhu, when asked why the original award list was destroyed,he said he was not aware of it.
