Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday sought the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for bringing back death row convict Sarabjit Singh to provide him proper treatment after he was seriously injured in an attack by other prisoners at Kot Lakhpat Rai Jail in Lahore.
Speaking to mediapersons,Badal said: It was unfortunate that Sarabjit Singh continues to be in coma and was on ventilator after being brutally attacked by other prisoners, due to this,it is the moral duty of the Union government to make all out efforts for his early release and thereby saving his precious life.
He added that it was the high time that the Prime Minister, foreign minister and home minister exploit all diplomatic channels to bring back Sarabjit from the Pakistan. Immediate relief must be provided to Sarabjit Singh on humanitarian ground to save his valuable life, said Badal. Expressing solidarity with Sarabjits family,Badal said Punjab was solidly with them in this hour of crisis.
He added: Though there is hardly anything in the hands of the state in matters pertaining to foreign affairs, even then, the Punjab government appeals to the Centre to take prompt action to save the life of Sarabjit… Observing the serious situation of Sarabjit, the government of Pakistan should also take a lenient view towards him and take every step to ensure his well being…
