Assam legislator Gopinath Das, wanted in connection with charges of raping a minor domestic help, has been absconding for the past three days.
“We are trying to arrest him. His cellphones are switched off, while two notices sent to him in the past three days have evoked no response,” Kamrup district SP Indrani Barua said.
Das, a leader of All India United Democratic Front, has been booked under Section 343 of the IPC, read with Sections 4 and 5 of POCSO Act.
The SP said police searched his residences at Nagarbera, Guwahati city and at the MLAs’ Hostel complex at Dispur, but could not locate him.
On Saturday, when the case was registered, Das had described it as a political conspiracy to tarnish his image.
