Bangalore Police has denied permission to Hyderabad MP and president of AIMIM Asaduddin Owaisi to take part in a public meeting in the city on February 21, citing cases filed against him for making provocative speeches in different parts of the country. He has also been barred from entering the city.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar said on Thursday that the police has granted permission to the Karnataka wing of Owaisi’s party to hold a rally at Shivaji Nagar, a largely Muslim-dominated area in east Bangalore, on February 21, but clarified that Owaisi will not be allowed to take part in the event.

On February 8, Bangalore Police had barred VHP leader Praveen Togadia from participating at the Virat Hindu Samavesha, organised by Sangh Parivar, citing a precedence of provocative speeches delivered by the VHP leader. Three VHP leaders, including Togadia, were booked after a video recording of Togadia’s speech was shown at the event.

The AIMIM has now decided to approach the Karnataka High Court. “We have decided to challenge the order of the police banning Owaisi’s participation in our rally on February 21 in the High Court . We will file a petition on Friday,” state president of AIMIM Syed Tabrez told The Indian Express.
