The Punjab Congress today said Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had no moral right to continue in office in the wake of “his severest-ever indictment not by the Opposition, but by one of his own colleagues,Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who had exposed his tall claims about development and his unaccountability to his own announcements”.

Dr Sidhu on Monday had reportedly raised questions over the statement on “his vision”,alleging that leaders and bureaucracy in the state lack commitment and willpower to work for the public. She lamented that despite pre-poll promise of Sukhbir to make available Rs 100 crore for development of her constituency, not even a single penny had been released. She also alleged diversion of funds meant for basic amenities in Amritsar.

In a joint statement issued here today,PPCC vice-presidents Tarlochan Singh Soond and Charanjit Singh Channi and MLAs Guriqbal Kaur,Karan Kaur Brar,Charanjit Kaur Bajwa,Harchand Kaur,Aruna Chaudhary and party spokesman Rajanbir Singh said: “Going by the press notes issued by the state public relations department, the Deputy CM had made several tall announcements amounting to thousands of crores for development of the state during the last six months, but the implementation of the same has been challenged by Dr Sidhu, who said such announcements remain only on paper.”

“No political motives could be attached to this strong criticism of Sukhbir by Dr Sidhu as she represents the party with which — as Sukhbir and his father Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal claim — the alliance was more than just being a political arrangement,” the statement said.
