As CM promises rain down,Ludhiana battles traffic snarls, waterlogging

The visit of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was nothing less than a battle to deal with for the city residents

The visit of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was nothing less than a battle to deal with for the city residents. While the CM’s cavalcade followed by a horde of ministers from Surjit Singh Rakhra,Sharanjit Dhillon and others led to traffic jams, waterlogging in various parts exposed the ground reality of the city.

While Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria,a close aide of the CM,was busy with him on the stage of Daana Mandi,Jalandhar bypass,at the oath taking function organised for panchayats of the district’s villages, city residents were waiting in long queues to pass through areas of the city due to heavy security.

Right from Jalandhar Bypass to Jagraon Bridge,Damoria bridge and even the posh areas of Bharat Nagar Chowk and Fountain Chowk, traffic snarls ruled the city as the cavalcade of ministers and CM passed through various areas.

People were seen wading through knee deep water as after rainfall, old city and parts of posh areas witnessed waterlogging.

However, promises made by the CM were nothing less than castles in the air as he claimed that “Ludhiana will get all solutions to its water and sewage problem within six months”.

Asserting that the SAD-BJP government was well aware of its promises and weaknesses,Badal said that they were trying to fulfil all the promises but it would take time. He added that “all is not in their hands as Congress-led Central government has snatched all decision-making powers from state government”.

“Congress has simply ruined the industry in Punjab. Agriculture too has become a victim of Congress with no increase in MSP,decreasing rupee value and increasing diesel prices,” said Badal. “The farmer of Punjab is buried under debt because of Congress and they should be thankful that at least state government is paying their tubewell and electricity bills which runs into thousands of crores.”

He said that soon all villages of Punjab would get safe drinking water as RO water systems in all villages would be installed, especially where water had been found contaminated with heavy metals.

He added that “everyone is welcome to his office and residence even at midnight and he will definitely listen to their complaints”.
