Arun Jaitley: 10 key DRDO projects delayed

Jaitley’s reply attributed the delay in completion of projects to “inadequate production facility at HAL”.

Putting on record, the much criticised time and cost overruns in key projects of the DRDO, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday told Parliament that 10 crucial defence projects are “delayed”.

According to Jaitley’s reply in the Lok Sabha, the delayed projects include the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, the Naval variant of LCA, Kaveri engine which is supposed to propel LCA Tejas beside other important equipment such as Electronic Warfare suit for fighter aircraft, Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile, heli-borne version of the anti-tank guided missile Helina, Air-to-Air missile Astra and advanced light weight torpedo. Two other projects have also been delayed. Jaitley’s reply attributed the delay in completion of projects such as LCA Tejas — phase II of which was to be completed by December 2008 — to “inadequate production facility at HAL”.
