Walmart International will open retail stores in Andhra Pradesh and procure products from the state.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met David Cheesewright, the president and CEO of Walmart International Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos and discussed the areas of collaboration with the retail giant.
Walmart will procure agricultural and horticulture products, especially organically grown, from farmers and will export them to international markets. Products manufactured by the DWCRA women groups and at least 100 other products will be identified and promoted by the the US multinational company. Cheesewright is expected to visit Andhra Pradesh in April. Naidu met several other corporate leaders that included Wipro chairman Azim Premji and PepsiCo Chairman Indra Nooyi on the sidelines of the event.
Premji has agreed to develop Vizag as a digital city. “Premji was impressed with the speed with which Wipro’s IT SEZ proposal in Vizag, which was pending for three years was cleared, by the CM within 7 days,’’ an official said.

“An e-governance product will be developed through a joint venture (with Wipro). Wipro will collaborate in developing apps. It will also set up a soap factory in Hindupur in Anantapur district,” the official added. Premji also suggested Naidu to speak to Nandan Nilekani for Aadhar-driven governance solutions like cash subsidy optimisation, inter-linkages between government schemes.
