The axe on Wednesday finally fell on the controversial Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police S S P Yadav.
In a reshuffle of top IPS officials, the state government has appointed R R Girish Kumar as the new DGP while making Yadav the Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation,a post normally held by IG or Additional DGP rank officers.
Kumar,a 1976 batch officer of the Indian Police Service, was the Director General of state Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The government has also transferred state intelligence chief K Aravinda Rao and posted him as the DG of ACB. Rao was a key aide of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and had been the intelligence chief for over five years.
Yadav always remained in news but for all the wrong reasons. A 1972 batch officer,he was first appointed as the DGP in October 2007 but the Election Commission ordered his replacement in March this year following allegations of bias towards the Congress.
He was reinstated as the DGP the very next day after Rajasekhara Reddy assumed charge as state Chief Minister for a second term on May 20.
